New Year Resolutions: My first Nail Art Tutorial!

Happy New Year!

As we step into the New Year many of us start thinking of what New Year Resolutions we want to make. Well this year, let's keep it simple! My New Year Resolution for T-Signer Nails is to do something new and be a bit more adventurous. So to welcome 2015. I bring to you my first Nail Art Tutorial!

Keep reading to find out how you could create this look!

You will need...

  • 3 Nail Polish colours in graduating shades to create a light to dark colour gradient
  • A Base Coat
  • A Top Coat
  • A fine-pointed paint brush
  • Black Acrylic Paint or Nail Polish
  • White Acrylic Paint or Nail Polish

Ok ready? ;)

1) Make sure your nails are clean and to the length you desire.

2) Optional - File your nails to the desired shape and length and don't forget to wash and dry your hands after to remove any dirt/dust so you have a fresh canvas to start your art work!

3) Apply a base coat of your choice.

Here I am using O.P.I Nail Envy as not only is it my favourite nail strengthener but it can also double as a base coat!

4) Now we create a colour gradient from lightest to darkest! Once the Base Coat dries, apply the lightest shade of the 3 coloured nail polishes to the whole of your nail and repeat on each nail. Allow to dry. You don't need thick coats of nail polish, just sufficient to provide good coverage at least to the top 3rd of your nail closest to the cuticle.

Here I am using 'China Glaze 625 For Audrey'.

5) After the first colour has dried, apply the second colour on 2/3 of the nail as shown below. Allow to dry.

Here I am using 'Revlon 320 Ocean Breeze'

6) Now with the darkest colour apply to the remaining 1/3 of the nail creating a colour gradient and allow to dry.

Here I am using 'O.P.I Yodel Me On My Cell NL Z20'

7) Apply a top coat to seal in the colour gradient and to avoid smudging later on.

Here I am using 'Seventeen Nail Xtras Glitter Top Coat'

8) Using a fine-pointed paint brush, and either Black Acrylic Paint OR Black Nail Polish (whichever you have available) draw on half-circles like that of fish scales starting at the base of the nail by the cuticles and working up to the free edge. You can always practice on some scrap paper first before doing this.

The benefit I find of using Acrylic Paint is that if you do make a mistake or unhappy with your fish scales, you can always remove them easily with some cotton wool and water and start again without removing your nail gradient!

9) Using a fine-pointed paint brush and White Acrylic Paint or White Nail Polish, highlight the underside of the fish scales created in step 8. This does not have to be evenly coloured or neat as we are trying to enhance the look of the fish scales and really make it "pop" so differences in the highlighting make each scale more unique!

10) Almost there! Now seal in your design with another layer of your top coat and you're all done! Enjoy!

Mid-week Mani!

Hi everyone!

Ever had the toughest time making a decision? Weighing up the pros and cons and still can't make up your mind. Seeking advice from friends and family but it is still "your choice" at the end of the day?

Sometimes all we need is to clear our minds with a distraction and come back to it later! I did just that and gave myself a mid-week mani!

Very simple and chic! Hope you like it! Let me know in the comments below or any special requests like a simple step by step nail tutorial!

The Secret Cure to Brittle, Cracked and Peeling Nails?

Hi!

It's T here at T-Signer Nails and I'm here to bring to you our first product review among many still to come!

Ever come across a time of Brittle, Cracked or Peeling Nails that even doing the most basic day-to-day tasks such as opening a soda can has become a nail-splitting experience? I know I have! I've always loved doing my nails. Painting and designing them using every colour under the sun, never forgetting to use base and top coats and never even getting acrylic nail extensions (which I know may come as a big surprise to many of you seeing as I'm a big nail art enthusiast). But as time passed, I started noticing my nails getting weaker, peeling and breaking at the slightest force. Growing my nails out became difficult and even if I could get them to reach a certain length without breaking, I'd notice the nails curling in on either side as if someone placed them in a clamp. What happened to my once strong and beautiful nails? My blank canvas for my designs.

For people who reside in UK, the hard water source plays a large part in our brittle, cracked and peeling nails also affecting our skin and hair. The long periods of cold weather and lack of sunshine also contributes to our lack of vitamin D and poor calcium absorption. For someone whom spent their childhood growing up under the sun, the changes to my hair, skin and nails were more obvious.

I tried all sorts of products claiming to "harden" and "strengthen" brittle, cracked and peeling nails but none ever having long-lasting results. By this point I resigned to keeping my nails short to avoid any painful accidents. That was until...I discovered THIS!

So what's my secret? Ok, I'll tell you...*drum roll please*

O.P.I Nail Envy
(Original)

O.P.I Nail Envy!  A gift from the heavens above! I use the Original Nail Envy but there is many versions including Matte, Maintenance etc.

(Click HERE to see the full range available in the UK!)

It is so easy to use and results within a week! Begin by applying two coats of O.P.I Nail Envy on your natural nails and an additional coat every other day for one week (i.e. apply on days 1, 3, 5 and remove on day 7.) where it is then removed and reapplied as desired. Even before the first week was up, I had already noticed the considerable changes to my nails! Now, to test them! I carried out 3 tests where previous to the days of O.P.I Nail Envy, nails would have definitely split! Test number ONE, opening of cans and tins. We have all come across different cans/tins with a pull or stay tab that are just a little bit too stiff! Trying to get your nails under the tab to lift up can often cause our nails to break, but now that my nails are "Nail Envied", the result? PASS with no cracks or breaks! Test number TWO, removal of staples from thick stacks of paper. A task so easy but at times, so troublesome that they have even invented tools to do this! The result? Another PASS! No more trying to dig out staples with the tip of your pen! Finally, test number THREE. Adding and removing keys on a Key Ring! The toughest being the wider flat metal rings! Almost like a miniature bear trap! So, the result? Another easy PASS! You now have (pretty much) invincible nails! Don't forget, you can also use it as a Base Coat to any nail polish! An added bonus!

The Final Verdict

Rating: 5 out of 5
Price: £££*
Comments: Two thumbs up! A must-have item for all! Definitely earned a spot in my Nail Polish Collection!

*Price is rated using the pound sign (£) where ONE pound sign is the lowest and four pound signs is the highest.
